I'm one of those artists that stays behind the scenes. I love producing fine art, graphics and lifestyle concepts in the background, while others market and sell.
For Mosaic Legends, however, I have stepped out of the shadows because the Photomosaic art form is far too spectacular to keep under wraps (and rely on others to get the word out).
Yes, Photomosaics are a digital form of Fine Art. And digital, being the operative word, is the form in which my work has existed for the past 19 years.
Starting in 1990, I teamed up with the singer Dietmar Petutschnig as The Freudian Slip to introduce Austrian-infused House Rock to the masses. Using start of the art software at the time, we wrote all the music on computers and all the audio, drums, etc were using digital audio. Quite new and refreshing back then. In a few short years, I became a digital audio expert, which led nowhere.
Fast forward to 1994, when I joined the family fashion business as the inventory computer specialist, keeping track of systems that kept track of dresses. Not a load of fun, but through it, I learned that the sales and marketing people in the Fashion business had only one tool at their disposal, a Polaroid camera. So, working with my Syracuse Alumni Jono Pinsky, we put the brand-spanking new technology of consumer digital photography with the semi-old technology of databases. Voila, Image Info, Inc. was born. Then bred, then raised, then sold. But before the end, we had every major (and most minor) apparel, accessories and shoe manufacturers/designers using our flagship software, Image Info Pro. Anyone who wasn't using Image Info software, instead used our digital photographer services. We were the "Official Digital Photographers for 7th on Sixth" runway shows and experienced the most massive digital photography capture, downloading, editing, databasing and publishing the world has ever since (at least until 1999).
Further on down the road, in 2005 I co-founded PumpOne with Declan Condron, the ace exercise physiologist and soccer national champion and traded Fashion for Exercise. In just a few years, we have created the world's largest exercise image and video database, manage almost 1,000 fitness professional web stores, power the Men's Health and Women's Health Workouts To Go, have two retail boxes in every Apple store, a health series at Barnes & Noble and 20 best-selling fitness Apps on the iTunes App Store. At a typical 3-day PumpOne content capture event, we shoot 3,000 images and 700 videos. All get edited and used in a variety of different end products.
Also, in 2005 I discovered the fantastic art of Photomosaics. After being introduced to the art form and technology, I contacted the Patent holder of the art form and owner of the Photomosaic copyright. Sharing the same digital photography sensibilities, I acquired the exlusive rights to create Photomosaics for the music and sports categories. While it took a couple of years to fine tune the technology and business aspects, today I'm proud that we've launched in 2008 and have photographers such as Terry O'Neill, Mick Rock, Robert Altman and Jay Blakesberg as licensed content providers. Together, we breathe new life into this art form and bring the subjects of their photographers into a whole new realm of awe and inspiration. |
